The Meridian Southern Soul Awards is a committee of radio and music insiders with a desire to recognize the many unsung talents of Southern Soul. The Awards were created in 2020 to honor the talented artist of Southern Soul who are not always recognized for their hard work and talent. We come together for a weekend to show appreciation to the artists, songwriters, producers, DJs, promoters, radio stations, and fans who champion Southern Soul.

The Meridian Southern Soul Awards pay special homage to those who have left a mark on Southern Soul, are pushing Southern Souls beyond the music, and have paved a path for others to travel.

Billy "Soul" Bonds is known for his soulful sounds and the narrative messages in his songs. He became a household name when joined Malaco/Waldoxy and released Scat Cat, Here Kitty, Kitty on the 2006 Here Kitty, Kitty CD. With a career spanning four decades, he is a true legend.

Southern Soul Tribute Artist
Lomax Spaulding simply known as Lomax is an accomplished singer, musician, songwriter, and producer. Lomax has toured with Cameo, Levert, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Rodger & Zapp, Luther Vandross, Shelia E, Keith Sweat, XSCAPE, R. Kelly, and L.L. Cool to name a few. He was a musical guest for the unveiling of the bust of Sojourner Truth in Washington, DC at the US Capital Visitors’ Center. In 2014, Lomax sang a tribute to Nelson Mandela at the Martin Luther King Day Annual Program in Washington DC.

Black Tie Gala
This is a Black Tie/Red Carpet event - no jeans, t-shirts or sneakers will be allowed. We ask that the gentlemen wear tuxes or suits with ties and that the ladies a long formal gown or a shorter fancy cocktail dress or fancy jumpsuit that is black tie appropriate. Photographers will be ready to snap your photos as you walk the red carpet, so dress to impress!
