'vienna', a new release on Small Forms Records w  FIM Basel Concert March 2023   Hypersurface is a NYC-based trio consisting of Drew Wesely (guitar/objects), Lester St. Louis (cello), and Carlo Costa (percussion).     Hypersurface explores timbral, durational, and formal aspects of improvisation with lenses focused on their instruments' acoustic particularities alongside employing tiles, railroad spikes, ceramic plates and other objects to expand them further. In coming together Carlo, Drew and Lester wanted to create a music that puts emphasis on the erasure of sonic boundaries, embracing the liminal spaces between their instruments, their sounds and the greater sonic environment. Timbre, gesture, duration, particles, layers… a real time tapestry of its own. The trio has given performances throughout the United States and Europe in a diversity of concert settings from clubs to large halls and galleries; with each utilizing the acoustics to follow potent musical pathways.    Kamau Amu Patton is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work examines history and culture through engagement with archives, documents, stories, and sites. Another Molt cycle is upon us — we return for an evening spanning woozy low-slung grooves, hazy textures, and skittery insectoid rhythms for those ready to shed their carapace.

FEDRA is a DJ, music producer and multidisciplinary artist. She’s a co-founding member of Internacional Bailable, an electronic music collective from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her sets combine a wide spectrum of rhythms and sounds that honor her multicultural heritage. The intention behind her productions and DJ sets is to blur the barriers between genres, open the space for diversity and stimulate movement and sensitivity to create community and empathy on the dance floor.

Rafa weaves immersive sonic landscapes, blending a background in classical piano with the raw energy of Brooklyn’s underground electronic scene. Guided by emotional connections between sonic worlds over genre constraints, he crafts evocative journeys that invite emotional connection, shifting fluidly through ambient dubby depths, downtempo grooves, and instrumental interludes. With a sensibility for lush textures, their sound drifts between organic and electronic elements, creating a space for healing, introspection, and renewal.

egavas is a Brooklyn-based DJ and producer on a constant search for maximalist psychedelic euphoria.
Cultivating a wide swath of influences, he aims to keep focused and surprised when playing out, peppering in cerebral peak time slambient, trudging trance, and spiritual drone rock at close. The noisy, digitally unkempt realm of the 21st century is a draw for egavas, as he aims to offer his best sonorous interpretation of this disorienting kaleidoscopic age, for mind, body, and soul alike.

Phonozar is a Queens-based producer, DJ, and audio engineer. With roots in Brooklyn’s early 2010s DIY scene, he has developed a sonic identity centered on immersive blends of hypnotic techno, leftfield electronica, and experimental sound design. Phonozar hosts Umbau, a bi-monthly show on 8 Ball Radio, featuring mixes and guest sets.

Primordian is a purveyor of rhythms that tap into the primal directive to move. Equal parts meditative and dynamic, his sets combine ritualistic grooves with psychedelic textures. He co-hosts Permutations on 8 Ball Radio, which spans an eclectic array spanning club sounds, leftfield, downtempo, and beyond.
