National Public Lands Day Event at Dankworth Village Heritage Education Site Heritage Education Site

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Safford Field Office (SFO) will host the 2024 National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event at the Dankworth Village Heritage Education Site. The event will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public and a few cooperating groups have been invited to this event. The address and physical location of this event will be at Dankworth Pond State Park, Dankworth Lake Rd., Safford, AZ 85546. We expect to see members of the general public who are outdoor enthusiasts, San Carlos-Apache tribal members, BLM and state parks employees and their families join us for a variety of tasks being readied for them to assist the SFO staff accomplish restoration work at Dankworth Village.

It should be noted that the local Arizona State Parks and Trails will be the main cooperating partner and will help to facilitate the event. The different volunteer projects will include general trail maintenance, repairing railroad tie steps, lining trails with rock, disguising social trails, installation of signage, repair to two pit houses, construction of a wooden ramada, traditional wickiup, and various smaller tasks.

The BLM will be providing all necessary tools, materials, and personal protective equipment. The BLM will also provide hydration, refreshments, and a light lunch at the conclusion of the event.
