SUPPORT OPDC
Oakland Planning and Development Corporation (OPDC) was founded in 1980 to develop housing for low-income and chronically ill people, to support families and homeowners in Oakland, and to develop, coordinate, and implement plans to assure both the social and physical wellbeing of the neighborhood and its residents.
Over the past 45 years, OPDC has responded to dramatic changes in the local economy, neighborhood demographics, and ever-expanding university presence with creative initiatives and programs. We’ve built over 240 new housing units (and renovated over 100 more), supported job training and job readiness programs connecting residents with employment in Oakland’s growing hospitals, provided financial coaching and supportive services referrals, and offered after-school programs for at-risk high school students. We’ve advocated for Oakland residents and helped Oakland residents to advocate for themselves and their neighbors. We support neighborhood initiatives and community organizations in each of Oakland’s four neighborhoods; we facilitate conversations and collaboration that connect residents to resources, information, and opportunities; and we support resident participation in public planning and development initiatives.
