Celebrating Professor Sossina M. Haile
We are delighted to gather at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to celebrate Professor Sossina M. Haile's 60th birthday and her extraordinary contributions to the materials science community. As the institution where she earned both her Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, MIT provides a fitting setting to honor her scientific achievements, visionary leadership, and lasting impact on the field.
Professor Haile, the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, has transformed the fields of solid-state ionics and electroceramics through decades of pioneering research, dedicated mentorship, and exceptional service to the scientific community. Following three years on the faculty at the University of Washington and 18 years at the California Institute of Technology, she joined Northwestern University in 2014, where she continues to advance fundamental science and inspire future generations of researchers. Throughout her career, she has mentored 46 Ph.D. students, 13 postdoctoral scholars, and numerous master's, undergraduate, and visiting researchers.
We look forward to welcoming colleagues, collaborators, former trainees, and friends from around the world to celebrate Professor Haile's scientific legacy, her generous mentorship, and the vibrant community she has helped build.
