PAC Con is an annual gathering for performing arts groups to learn, share, and build community. Hosted by Platt House and the PAC Shop in collaboration with campus partners, our sixth annual conference offers an array of workshops, trainings, and mixers intended to support the Performing Arts Council and Independent performing arts clubs at the University of Pennsylvania.

SCENIC PAINTING, FAUX FINISHING, AND YOU 🛠️ (PAC Shop)
A crash course in scenic art finishes, textures, and faux finishes. Understanding your materials, the basic chemistry of paint, and getting the look you want. Learn the rules (of painting) so you know how to break them!

LIGHT BOARD TRAINING 🛠️ (Zellerbach Theatre at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts)
Want to learn to use the light board for your show? Want to get paid for doing tech gigs? Join us for a hands-on introduction to the ETC Element Light Board, used in Class of '49, the Prince Theatre, and Iron Gate Theatre. This session repeats during PAC Con, with two sessions on Thursday and three sessions on Sunday.

SCALED DOWN: MODEL SET BUILDING 🛠️ (PAC Shop)
An introduction to making a tiny version of your set using stuff you already have around. Learn the ins and outs of making a scale model of your set, so that you (and others) can visualize it before you start building!

Don't know a Drill from a Hammer? Curious about how to use tools? This introductory session will go over the names of (and how to use) basic tools. Using your new knowledge, you will create a Phone and Photo holder that you can take home with you!
For training on the shop saws, attend Saw and Order on Saturday or throughout the semester.

A SUPER Night Out: Harm Reduction Strategies for Quakers is a "choose your own adventure" style session where students learn about how alcohol and other substances interact with one another and harm reduction strategies that can keep Quakers safe.

A space for conversation, reflection, and affirmation! This session is for anyone who's ever found themselves isolated within their creative community, whether by gender, race, neurodivergence, disability, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background. How have you noticed, been impacted, or transformed the experience of being the only one - or one of the only ones - like you in your group? Join us in a facilitated conversation as we make space ourselves, affirm our stories, and build community with each other.

Penn Violence Prevention engages collective community action to help ending interpersonal violence by addressing gender inequity, social injustice, and oppression. Learn how to build a rehearsal room that prioritizes consent, communication, and personal agency as you prepare for your show!

We’ll run through all the rules and best practices for your group's expenses and documentation, as well as how to pay your techs, directors, and instructors. * This session is mandatory for Treasurers (or equivalent board member) of SAC-funded groups within PAC.

EMBRACING CONFLICT WITH RP@P* (Platt House Lobby)
Restorative Practices @ Penn (RP@P) works with students, staff, and faculty at the University of Pennsylvania to promote healing, accountability, and community building, drawing from a diverse web of roots, including practices of various Indigenous peoples of North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Learn some of the tools and strategies for thinking about relationality, reciprocity, and mutual obligation within your group. * This session is mandatory for at least one Board member of each PAC group.

We'll run through all the information needed to get your set into (and out of) buildings. Plus anything else you need to know about being a Tech Director! * This session is mandatory for Technical Directors of groups who build sets: TAC-e, Singers, Bloomers, Mask & Wig, and Glee Club.
