The Pile Driving Contractors Association of South Carolina (PDCA of SC) is proud to sponsor a one-day technical seminar on driven pile foundations for the benefit of structural and geotechnical engineers, architects, owners and contractors. The diverse program will cover case histories, design methodologies, pile driving practices and testing.

John C. Ryan, PhD, PE

John C. Ryan is an assistant professor of civil engineering at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He provides structural foundation engineering services through Ryan Structural Engineers LLC. He is actively involved with prestress pile research through PCI. He obtained his doctorate in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., in 2006.
Mohamad Hussein, PE
GRL Engineers, inc.
Mohamad Hussein is Executive Vice President of GRL Engineers, Inc. and Executive Director of Global Industry Relations at Pile Dynamics, Inc. In his 40+ years career he has consulted on more than 1000 deep foundations projects in 35 States in the USA and several countries. Conducted research on deep foundations in association with several universities. Managing Lecturer of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Continuing Education Class: Deep Foundations Design, Construction, and Quality Control. Mohamad is a member of technical committees of ASTM, DFI, PDCA, and ASCE.  Chaired the Deep Foundations Committee of the ASCE’s Geo- Institute (2002-2009), and the PDCA’s Education Committee (2012-2013); and currently Chairs the PDCA’s Technical Committee. Published over 50 technical papers, and co-edited 10 books. He is a registered professional engineer in several States, and recipient of several professional and industry awards and recognitions.
Michael Wysockey, PhD, PE
Thatcher foundations
Michael Wysockey is the president of Thatcher Foundations, a specialty contractor working in design-build earth retention, pile driving, drilled foundations, and marine construction. Thatcher has built a reputation for innovative solutions to challenging deep foundation and shoring jobs, from limited access micropiles to high capacity driven and drilled piles/shafts. Thatcher has been in business since 1946.

Michael received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from The Citadel, his Master’s from MIT, and his Doctorate in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign – where he was awarded both the Wilson and Peck Fellowships. His publications range from shore erosion, to the effect of local soil conditions on earthquake motions, to the capacity of deep foundations. He is the past president of the DFI and recently chaired the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings and the ASCE Geo Institute, Illinois Section.
David Borger, PE
Nucor Skyline
David Borger is the Director of Engineering at Nucor Skyline. Nucor Skyline is the foundation arm of Nucor, Americ’as largest steel and steel products company. Nucor Skyline manufactures and supplies a wide variety of steel foundation products to contractors. David joined Skyline in 1997 after earning his BS in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He has worked on the design of multiple types of steel foundation structures, but focused on sheet piles and combination walls. His current work is primarily on new products and applications. David has a patent on a fire rating assembly for steel sheet piling used in the construction of permanent steel sheet piling basement structures. He has been active with multiple industry associations, currently the Chair of the PDCA Sheet Piling Committee and a past member of the Board of Trustees of the DFI.
Matt Caskey, PE
DuroTerra
Matt Caskey is the Director of Sales and Business Development for DuroTerra in Memphis, Tennessee and leads sales and strategic initiatives for the company. Matt has more than 25 years of experience in geotechnical design and foundation construction.  He received his BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia, and his MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Memphis.  Matt is a registered professional engineer in the states of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Missouri.

Prior to working with DuroTerra, Matt was the Director of Sales at Geopier Foundation Company, where he worked for 21 years. Matt began his career in 1994 as a geotechnical engineer and department manager for PSI (now Intertek/PSI) in Memphis. Matt is past-president of the West Tennessee (Memphis) Branch of ASCE, past-president of the Tennessee State Section of ASCE and is the past-chair of the Tennessee State Geo-Institute. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee State Geo-Institute and on the Local Involvement Committee (LIC) with the national Geo-Institute.
