Mr. DiMaggio is a Senior Principal Civil Engineer and Associate at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) working in the Research and Technology Deployment group. Mr. DiMaggio specializes in civil engineering and construction services related to design, construction and the long-term performance of infrastructure features, strategic planning, innovation deployment/implementation, and business development. He is internationally recognized for his accomplishments related to design, construction, monitoring of infrastructure features, alternative contracting methods, forensic assessment, disputes resolution and innovation deployment/mainstreaming.
Mr. DiMaggio has served on numerous national and international projects related to limit states design (LRFD), risk assessment and management, innovative project/program delivery, and accelerated construction. He is a retired Principal Bridge Engineer and National Program Manager of Geotechnical/Foundation Engineering with the U.S. DOT, in Washington D.C.

Patrick (Pat) is the President Emeritus of GRL Engineers, Inc. He has spent the vast majority of his engineering career focused on deep foundation design and testing. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He has published numerous technical papers and was the principal author for the 1996, 2006, and 2016 editions of the Federal Highway Administration manual “Design and Construction of Driven Pile Foundations”. He is a is a licensed professional engineer in 22 states and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Deep Foundations Institute, Pile Driving Contractors Association, and the Association of Drilled Shaft Contractors.

Van holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. He has a long-standing career as a geotechnical engineer, most recently at the helm of Wagner Komurka Geotechnical Group. Van is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Geo-Institute’s Deep Foundations Committee, of the Deep Foundations Institute’s Codes and Standards, Driven Pile, and Testing & Evaluation Committees, and of the Technical Committee of the Pile Driving Contractors Association (PDCA). Van has authored multiple publications and is an instructor for the course “Driven Pile Foundations – Design and Construction” offered by the Federal Highway Administration National Highway Institute (FHWA/NHI). He received the University of Wisconsin–Platteville College of Engineering Mathematics and Science Alumni Chapter Outstanding Entrepreneur/Businessperson Award, two PDCA Awards: the Professional Engineer’s Service Award and the Presidential Award for Distinguished Service, and the ASCE Geo-Institute’s Martin S. Kapp Foundation Engineering Award. Van is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He is an A.S.C.E. Fellow, and has been granted the Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE) certification from ASCE’s Academy of Geo-Professionals.
