Join us for another session of PetMedic Pathways, a free monthly STEM series designed for high school students interested in animal health, science, and careers in veterinary medicine.

Whether you dream of becoming a veterinarian, veterinary technician, emergency and critical care specialist, or simply enjoy fast-paced science and medicine, this interactive program will introduce you to one of the most rewarding areas of veterinary medicine - saving lives during emergencies.

CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Discover how veterinary teams respond when a patient experiences cardiac or respiratory arrest. Learn how preparation, teamwork, and evidence-based medicine can make the difference between life and death during a medical emergency.

We'll explore the fundamentals of veterinary CPR, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). Students will learn how veterinary teams recognize an emergency, perform high-quality chest compressions and ventilation, administer emergency medications, monitor patients during resuscitation, and communicate effectively under pressure. We'll also work through real emergency cases and participate in interactive demonstrations using CPR training equipment.

Students will have the opportunity to practice their chest compression skills through our CPR simulator.

By the end of the session, students should be able to:

• Explain the difference between Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
• Recognize the signs of cardiopulmonary arrest in veterinary patients.
• Describe the roles of each member of the veterinary CPR team.
• Understand the importance of teamwork, communication, and rapid decision-making during emergencies.
• Apply the steps of the RECOVER CPR algorithm to solve an emergency patient scenario.

Students are welcome to attend one session or the entire series throughout the school year. Each workshop stands on its own, so you won't fall behind if you miss one. Earn a Certificate of Completion for each session or a special certificate for the series if you attend all nine sessions.

This program is for high school students (grades 9–12) with an interest in STEM, biology, veterinary science, healthcare, emergency medicine, or critical care.

Space is limited, so registration is required.
