Join us for our final session of PetMedic Pathways, a free monthly STEM series designed for high school students interested in animal health, science, and careers in veterinary medicine.
Whether you dream of becoming a veterinarian, veterinary technician, anesthetist, or simply enjoy science and technology, this interactive program will introduce you to one of the most critical aspects of veterinary medicine -keeping patients safe while they are under anesthesia.

Anesthesia & Patient MonitoringDiscover how veterinary teams safely monitor patients before, during, and after surgery. Learn how advanced monitoring equipment provides real-time information about a patient's heart, lungs, blood pressure, oxygen levels, temperature, and more to help ensure every patient receives the safest possible care.
We'll explore how anesthesia works, discuss the responsibilities of the anesthesia team, review the different parameters displayed on a veterinary patient monitor, and learn how veterinary professionals recognize and respond to changes before they become emergencies.
By the end of the session, students should be able to:- Explain the purpose of anesthesia in veterinary medicine.
- Identify the major parameters displayed on a veterinary patient monitor, including heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation (SpO₂), end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO₂), temperature, and electrocardiogram (ECG).
- Describe what each monitoring parameter tells the veterinary team about a patient's health.
- Recognize normal versus abnormal monitoring trends and explain why they are important.
Students are welcome to attend one session or the entire series throughout the school year. Each workshop stands on its own, so you won't fall behind if you miss one.
Earn a Certificate of Completion for each session or a special certificate for the series if you attend all nine sessions.
This program is for high school students (grades 9–12) with an interest in STEM, biology, veterinary science, healthcare, biomedical engineering, anesthesia, or medical technology.
