This year we're taking over Mr. Purple, the rooftop pool and lounge on the fifteenth floor of the Indigo Hotel on the Lower East Side, so grab your sunglasses, don your finest pool fashion and come join us as we enjoy live performances, DJ sets, an open bar of curated specialty cocktails and poolside bites.

MISSION
Friends of + POOL is a water stewardship organisation dedicated to providing free and safe access to NY's waters for healthful recreational swimming. We fulfill our mission through education, advocacy and the construction of a water-filtering (chemical-free) floating river pool for everybody. + POOL is a city-wide, participatory effort, powered by the people that engage with our shared vision to promote equitable access to the waters surrounding NYC.
Our amazing supporters who propelled us forward as a young nonprofit have catapulted us and our technology to a public private partnership with New York! After more than a decade, on January 5, 2024, + POOL received approval and $16 million to pilot and scale our first water-filtering, floating pool which will be installed in NYC this summer!
We just had some major wins, but we still need your help, the recently announced funding is for construction only, which means that we need your support now more than ever as we scale during this exciting phase.
All funds support + POOL's work to:
+ Finalize our river swim facility. We are pursuing the construction of a pilot facility that can scale to numerous facilities across the city.
+ Design and implement free swim and environmental educational programs, expanding learn-to-swim opportunities for youth and adults across the five boroughs and raising awareness of the issues affecting our water quality through creative projects and direct water stewardship activities.

Why river swimming?
River swimming in New York City offers an incredible opportunity to connect with nature and explore the city from a unique perspective. + POOL started as a simple idea: instead of trying to clean the entire river, what if you could clean a small piece of it. And what if you could change how New Yorkers see their rivers, just by giving them a chance to swim in it? And so the idea of a plus-shaped floating pool was born. Like a giant strainer the pool was designed to filter river water through the walls of the pool to create a safe swimming space. This simple idea captured the imagination of the world, launching a movement to reclaim our waters.
By reclaiming and revitalizing the waters surrounding New York City, we can unlock the benefits of swimming and create a healthier, more vibrant, and inclusive urban environment for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
