Brides Across America (BAA) is a non-profit committed to loving one another by gifting weddings and wedding gowns to our military & first responders

Operation Deploy Your Dress’s primary goal is to improve the quality of life of military families by offsetting the high cost of attending formal military functions, especially for junior servicemembers. ODYD currently “deploys” dresses from thirteen brick and mortar shops at installations around the world.

These shops are solely run by military spouse volunteers.

The heart and soul of this organization is the following three pillars:

1. Deploying America’s patriotism one dress at a time

2. Fostering community through volunteerism, while building concrete work experience for military spouses.

3. Upholding military tradition and cultivating camaraderie

ODYD assists in bridging the ever-growing gap between the military and civilian communities by offering a tangible way for the American public to show their appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our military servicemembers and their families.

Military Weddings
A military wedding is the wedding of any person who is an active member of the military. Here is how military weddings in San Antonio are different from civilian weddings.

Attire
It is mandatory to wear formal attire. The man is to wear his full dress uniform along with gloves and saber/sword. The bride on the other hand has the option of wearing either the uniform or a dress. If she chooses to wear a bridal dress, it should be appropriate. Low cuts, backless and strapless dresses are considered inappropriate. If the bride chooses to wear her uniform, she can’t wear corsage or flowers.

Recessional
The couple is to pass an arch of drawn swords or sabers. Naval officers carry swords, while Army, Air force, and Marine Officers carry sabers. The arch is usually formed by an honor guard and is a symbol of safe passage towards the journey of marriage.

Customs
The couple enters, kisses, and passes through the arch. The couple then salutes the honor guard after which members return to carry position, whether the arch is performed inside the foyer or outside is decided by the church rules.

Decoration
The hall is decorated in military style. There is usually a display of the American flag decorated along with the standards (colors) of the couple’s military unit(s). If you want to do something special, you can play the song from the groom/bride’s branch of service.

Indoor Ceremony
The indoor arch sword ceremony happens after the couple rises to take the blessings. After this, a carry saber command is given after the couple has passed through the arch. Then the saber bearers move away from the alter and march down the side aisle, only to assemble again on the chapel steps with the sabers.

Reception
Military guests at the wedding are shown their seats at the reception according to their ranks. The bride and groom cut the wedding cake with a saber or sword. The bride holds the sword and the groom covers her hands and together they cut the cake.

The After Party
If you want to hold an after party, you should know that there are options like community clubs, hotel venues (like the Navy lodge and chapel meeting halls) inside the military base.

Other Information
A military wedding can be held at the couple’s preferred church or at a chapel at the military base. You are eligible to marry at a military academy if you are a graduate, child of a graduate, or a member of the staff.
Military weddings are a perfect example of how rituals and traditions can create a memorable wedding.

 That time is now.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.

UNITY SAND CEREMONY
The unity sand ceremony is a contemporary alternative to the unity candle ceremony. Instead of lighting a candle, the couple pours different colors of sand into a unity vase. It’s a beautiful representation of union, which couples can keep long after the wedding.
The flowing sands and blending colors of the Unity Sand Ceremony symbolize the bringing together of two lives into one. The two separate sands symbolize everything that the bride and groom have been in the past combining into a bright future.

NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY
A wedding ceremony that doesn’t include religious practices or traditions.

INTERFAITH CEREMONY

An interfaith wedding occurs when two people of different religious backgrounds blend their religious customs and traditions into one wedding.

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY
If the bride and groom follow the same faith, or if they're looking for a traditional wedding, they'll likely choose a religious ceremony-meaning they'll tie the knot in accordance with the customs and guidelines of the particular faith.

WINE CEREMONY
Through the centuries and across many cultures, wine has been a part of the wedding tradition. In scripture, the first of Jesus’ miracles was the changing of water into wine during a wedding celebration. A wine ritual can be included in wedding ceremonies to accomplish several purposes. At the beginning of a ceremony, it can involve parents and signify the uniting of two families. The wine ceremony may symbolize the blending of two lives into one. By blending sweet and dry wines together, it can be used to symbolize the marriage bond that persists in times and joy and in sorrow.

UNITY CANDLE CEREMONY
Just before the wedding vows, the parents of the couple come forward (or other family members, children etc.) and light a candle for each. Then the couple light the center candle from these two outside candles. The Unity candle symbolizes the joining of their families, the merging of two individuals, the creation of a blended family, etc.

JUMPING THE BROOM CEREMONY
Jumping the broom is a traditional act performed at some African American weddings. After vows are exchanged, the newlyweds hold hands and jump over a broom to seal the union.

In Christian ceremonies, the broom handle represents God, the straw bristles signify the couple’s families, and a ribbon around the broom symbolizes the ties that bind the couple.

“It is a tradition of the ancestors of African Americans and they want to keep it going because ‘jumping the broom’ is a major part of their heritage. They also decide to jump the broom to bless the marriage.”

CROSS AT CEREMONY
Lastly, and maybe the most simply, including a cross at the ceremony is a great way to showcase your faith and the importance it has for you. Include a cross up at the alter.

FOOT WASHING CEREMONY
The foot washing wedding ceremony is a Christian tradition wherein a couple washes each other’s feet. The act is based on a story with Jesus and His disciples, and it symbolizes humility, loyalty, and love. It reiterates that we are all God’s children.

ROSE CEREMONY
Wedding Rose Ceremony is a part of the wedding ceremony that takes place usually after the wedding vows.

RENEWAL WEDDING CEREMONY
A vow renewal is a ceremony of celebration and recommitment where a married couple reaffirms their marriage vows to each other. Because this isn't a legally binding ceremony, the way that a wedding ceremony is. The sky is the limit!

SIMPLE SIGNING CEREMONY
As Ordained Minister it’s my job to make sure that both people getting married understand the seriousness of the commitment. I will ask you a few questions about your relationship, why you’re choosing to get married today . It ismeant to be a casual conversation among the three of us.

As an Ordained Minister I will ask each of you to affirm that you want to marry the other person as you both understand it legally, emotionally, spiritually . This is your “vow.”

I will than need to “pronounce” that you are now a married couple, which means that we will say out loud that we declare you are now married and use your names, even though it is just the three of us.

I sign your license and give it back to you. You will go back to the courthouse to file.

Signing and completing the marriage license with up to 2 witnesses present (You do NOT need witnesses in the state of Texas, nor do you need to have a ceremony, but you are welcome to bring up to 2 guests with you.

As Christian’s we want to marry with our “Faith” In mind.

Why Christians should consider a Ordained Church Wedding
For the Christian, there is a richness associated with the wedding ceremony and the marriage that can only be fully understood, appreciated, and enjoyed within the context of the Body of Christ. Those of us who know Jesus as the coming Bridegroom have something to celebrate in marriage that non-believers can’t yet understand.

Under normal circumstances, then, we would assume that a Christian couple would be highly motivated to solemnize their union in the presence of God and His people. A Christian wedding in a Christian setting is a great opportunity for a man and a woman to confess their faith in Christ and seal their commitment to one another before the eyes of the watching world.

In the end, though, here are the two key points that answer your question:

  • There’s no reason to doubt that your marriage before a Justice of the Peace is valid in the eyes of God.
    • You can always reaffirm your vows in a specifically Christian wedding ceremony if you want to.

Please Read the Following Prior to Seeing Your Pre- Marital Counselor
The Benefits of Counseling

  • Heal and find resolutions to issues/ concerns that led you to seek therapy.
  • Develop a better ability to cope with family, marital, and other interpersonal relationships.
  • Gain a greater understanding of your personal goals and values.

  • You can always reaffirm your vows in a specifically Christian wedding ceremony if you want to.

The Risks of Counseling

To allow you to make informed decisions about your counseling, Covington-McGee Wedding & Christian Counseling Chapel wishes to make you aware of certain risks involved in counseling.

During sessions, you may experience discomfort and other emotions such as depression, anger, and frustration.

Resolving concerns between marital partners, family members, and other persons may also lead to discomfort and relationship changes that may not be originally intended.

God’s Knot Ceremony $70

The cord of three strands ceremony (often called "God's Knot" or the Unity Braid Ceremony) symbolizes the joining of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage relationship. It adds a truly unique element to your ceremony that friends and family will remember.

The cord of three strands ceremony is a great addition to a wedding ceremony.
Couples with strong spiritual beliefs may want to add this short ceremony toward the end of the wedding ceremony. Keeping God at the center of your wedding ceremony will also help you keep God at the center of your marriage.

Every time you think back on your wedding ceremony it will remind you of how God is intimately involved in your marriage. The Cord of Three Strands is a symbol of that sacred union created on your wedding day.

Marriage takes three; you, your soon to be spouse, and God. It was God who taught us to love. By keeping Him at the center of your marriage, His love will continue to bind you together as one throughout your marriage.

Gold Strand - Represents God

The divinity of God is represented in Gold. This covenant relationship is initiated by Him, will be built under His authority, and is intended to glorify Him.

Purple Strand - Represents the Groom

As a new creation in Christ, the majesty of the Groom is represented in purple. As the husband loves his wife and submits himself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will demonstrate His great love in the marriage relationship.

White Strand - Represents the Bride

Having been cleansed by salvation in Christ, the purity of the Bride is represented in white. As the wife honors her husband and submits herself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will nurture and strengthen the marriage relationship.

MAKE YOUR Marriage. Everything it is meant to be…
LAUNCH LIFELONG LOVE
Preparing for a strong and passionate marriage is one of the most important things you’ll ever do.

The SYMBIS Report is incredibly powerful and robust.

If your relationship is getting serious, it’s never too soon to begin the process of exploring your potential future together.

While the SYMBIS Assessment is primarily designed for engaged and newlywed couples, many married couples at various stages find the results to be extremely helpful.

The SYMBIS Assessment will generate a customized report, adding information specific to your circumstances. In fact, a section of your report will be dedicated to issues such as second marriages and blending a family.

This is included  in the Pre-Marital Class which is $ 50.00 per couple. The SYMBIS Assessment is not mandatory but it gives a good start on your marriage for years to come.

As soon as both of you complete the SYMBIS Assessment, Dr McGee will be notified and then contact you to schedule your sessions.

This is critical. Every aspect of this assessment is grounded in multiple studies to ensure that the tool is both reliable and valid.

It takes Approximately 30 minutes to complete.

To ensure accurate results each of you will need to complete the assessment on your own without discussing it.

This is optimal. You get better results if you don’t take breaks between questions. However, if you have to take a break and continue later, your progress is saved along the way.

APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE
Absent Applicant
If one party will absent when applying for a marriage license, the other party or an assigned adult representative may represent them when applying. Please review the instructions for an Affidavit of Absent Applicant and the Affidavit of Absent Applicant for Marriage License to be sure that all information has been completed correctly.

The County Clerk may not issue a marriage license for which both applicants are absent unless the person applying on behalf of each absent applicant provides to the clerk an affidavit of the applicant declaring that the applicant is a member of the armed forces of the United States stationed in another country in support of combat or another military operation. Military identification is also required for each applicant who is not present to obtain the marriage license.

Twogether in Texas
When a couple presents the Twogether in Texas Certificate, the 72-hour waiting period after being issued a marriage license and when the ceremony may occur is waived. The Twogether in Texas Certificate is valid for one year from the date the course was taken, and the couple is eligible for a discount of $60.00 from the marriage license fee.

Marriage License Application
Once all information has been gathered, the parties must fill out either the Marriage License online application or the Informal Marriage License online application as appropriate. The electronic copy will be submitted to the County Clerk’s office and is available for up to five (5) days after submission.

After the application has been submitted, the parties should present themselves at the County Clerk’s Marriage Office in the Paul Elizondo Tower at 101 W. Nueva, Suite 120 with all relevant documentation and the fee in cash. No other form of payment is accepted.
  • License Fees in cash or credit card:
    • Marriage License: $81.00
    • Informal Marriage License: $46.00

MARRIAGE LICENSE RECORDING
To record your marriage license after your marriage ceremony has been performed you can:
  • Come into our Bexar County Clerk’s Vital Statistics Department in person and record it.

  • You may also mail your original Marriage License to:

  • Bexar County Clerk’s Office: Vital Statistics 100 Dolorosa, Suite 104, San Antonio, Texas 78205
    • Your license will be recorded and mailed back to the address listed on the back of your marriage license.

Note that if you choose to change your name you may want to purchase 2 certified copies for $8 each.

MARRIAGE LICENSE COPIES
The Bexar County Clerk’s Office is able to provide copies of a marriage license and copies of a Declaration of Informal Marriage certificates if the documents were recorded in Bexar County. The Bexar County Clerk’s Office can provide a copy of a marriage license issued in Bexar County from 1837 to the present day.

Only licenses purchased in Bexar County are recorded by the Bexar County Clerk, regardless of where the ceremony occurs. To request a copy of a license purchased in another county, please contact that county’s County Clerk office.

Since marriage licenses are public records, anyone may request a copy of marriage license by completing a Marriage License Copy Request Form and submitting it to the County Clerk.

Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage Certificate Copies
A Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage certificate is not a public record, so only the two applicants listed on the Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage certificate may receive a copy of the Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage certificate.
Copies of a Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage Certificate that was issued in Bexar County can be obtained by visiting the Bexar County Clerk’s Office located at 101 West Nueva, Suite B110.
