A Journey Through Portugal: Quinta de Chocapalha Masterclass with Andrea Tavares
Join us on October 27
On Tuesday, October 27th, from 6:00–7:30 PM, we invite you to join us at GVINO Wine Bar for a very special evening dedicated to the wines, history, and character of Quinta de Chocapalha, one of the remarkable estates of Portugal’s Lisbon Wine Region.
We are honored to welcome Andrea Tavares, owner and General Manager of Quinta de Chocapalha, who will personally guide us through an intimate tasting of five wines from her family’s estate.
Andrea grew up surrounded by agriculture and wine and, after a career in finance, followed her dream of joining the family business full-time in 2011. Today, she manages Quinta de Chocapalha alongside her sister Sandra Tavares, the estate’s chief winemaker. Their parents, Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva, acquired the historic property in 1986 and undertook an extensive restoration of its vineyards and winery.

The Estate
Located in Aldeia Galega, in Portugal’s Lisbon Wine Region, Quinta de Chocapalha has a history stretching back centuries. The estate encompasses approximately 45 hectares of vineyards, planted with an exciting combination of native Portuguese varieties and select international grapes. CHOCAPALHA - Andrea Tavares Bio
Its clay-limestone soils, rolling hills, and cooling Atlantic winds allow the grapes to mature slowly, helping preserve freshness and balance. This Atlantic influence has become central to the style of Chocapalha: wines that combine elegance, freshness, structure, and a distinct sense of place.

The Five-Wine Tasting
Chocapalha Arinto Branco 2022
We begin with one of Portugal’s great indigenous white varieties. Arinto is loved for its naturally vibrant acidity, citrus-driven character and mineral personality — a wonderful introduction to the freshness that defines the wines of Chocapalha.
Chocapalha CH Arinto 2021
A deeper and more serious interpretation of Arinto, giving us the opportunity to explore how the same grape can express additional complexity, texture and evolution. Comparing these first two wines side by side will be one of the fascinating moments of the evening.
Chocapalha Castelão Tinto 2022
An opportunity to discover Castelão, a historic Portuguese red variety. Expect a more delicate and savory expression of Portuguese red wine, with bright red-fruit character, freshness and an earthy Mediterranean personality.
Chocapalha Tinto 2021
The estate's red blend brings together the character of Quinta de Chocapalha's vineyards, balancing ripe fruit, structure and freshness. It is an excellent representation of the modern Lisbon wine region: polished and approachable while remaining unmistakably Portuguese.
Chocapalha CH Touriga Nacional 2021
We conclude with one of Portugal's most celebrated grapes: Touriga Nacional. Known for its depth, perfume, dark fruit and structure, this is a powerful finale and an opportunity to experience one of Portugal's signature varieties through the lens of the Chocapalha terroir.
Throughout the evening, Andrea will take us beyond the glass, sharing the story of her family, the evolution of the estate, the vineyards, native Portuguese grape varieties and the philosophy that has guided Quinta de Chocapalha.
Sustainability and respect for the land remain central to the family’s work. As the estate itself puts it, “we owe to nature everything we achieve,” with sustainable farming practices focused on the long-term health of the vineyards and soils. Today, Chocapalha wines are exported to more than 25 countries. CHOCAPALHA - Andrea Tavares Bio
