Why this conference?
The READ (Relationship, Excellence, and Discipleship) Homeschool Conference exists to promote three concepts for parents and home educators: 1) School should strengthen bonds between parents, children, and siblings--not weaken them. 2) Homeschool should be as good or better educationally than public or private school.  3) Discipleship into Christlikeness, for children AND parents, is best achieved in the home.  However, we recognize that homeschooling is incredibly daunting and demanding.  We are here to encourage and equip parents in their homeschooling journey.

FAQ
How do I get there?  Is there parking?
The conference is being held at Sattler College in downtown Boston.  Sattler is conveniently located close to the major subway lines: Government Center (Green line), Haymarket (Orange line), Park Street (Red line), and Bowdoin (Blue line).

Being a weekday, parking on Friday is more expensive and difficult. There is all-day parking in the building available for $41. Alternatively, you can park at a nearby subway stop (such as Wellington) for $9 and ride the subway in. There is also street parking, but only for 2-hour segments.

Parking on Saturday is thankfully more straightforward. There is all-day parking in the building for $12.

As a reminder you will need to show your ID to security in the building lobby before going up to the 17th floor.  On the 17th floor, only those with approved registration will be allowed on campus.
Will lunch be provided?
Lunch is not provided. During the lunch break we encourage members of the conference to use this time to fellowship and eat lunch together. You are welcome to bring your own lunch.  In addition, there are many great lunch offerings within walking distance from Sattler College. The following are some of the many food options.

What are the distinctives of this conference?
The conference name of READ: relationship, excellence, and discipleship communicates our values.  First, homeschooling families should have the best relationships on the planet (parents with children and siblings with siblings) and we're here to help you toward that goal.  Second, homeschooling should produce accomplished students, and we're here to help with topics ranging from teaching younger students to read well to helping older students succeed in science, advanced math, and foreign languages.  (We also put a lot of emphasis on teaching children to love learning, to learn how to learn, and to be self-propelled.)  Third, homeschooling has the highest potential to disciple children into a passionate love of Christ.  But many parents give up too early because they miss that homeschooling's first goal is to disciple the parents themselves! In fact, the gem of the homeschool enterprise is the sanctification of the parents.  Parents should be discipled into prayer, abiding in the Word, patience, diligence, gentleness, organization, rest, delight, and love.  When the parents are properly discipled, the discipleship of the children follows.  We know it's hard: parents, don't give up!

Practically, our conference has other distinctives. First off, unlike most conferences, there is no charge to attend!  We don't want cost to prohibit anyone from coming.  Another notable distinctive is that you won't find political messages here other than that Jesus is King.  Next, there will be more time and opportunity to engage with the speakers compared to larger homeschool conferences. Finally, the conference has spaces for learning from fellow homeschoolers: what works, what has failed, and how to stay motivated and joyful on the journey.
