"What Neuroscience Tells Us About Building the Addiction Treatment Ecosystem"
with Dr. Corey Waller
The current addiction treatment ecosystem is built from a combination of legacy systems, bandaids, and duct tape. Some of this is due to the fragmented and unpredictable payment systems, but a large portion of the issue stems from a basic misunderstanding of what a person needs to succeed in maintaining remission long term. We will explore how the neuroscience of the disease of addiction helps us to build better systems of treatment and support for those at risk. As we design the system of the future, we need to be focused on the 4 Cs. The National Academy of Medicine lays out a framework using Capacity, Competency, Consistency, and Compensation to guide the infrastructure of the future. Using this framework and overlaying the neuroscientific reality of addiction, we will build a resilient and sustainable system for the treatment of addiction.
