Join us at the Salem Civic Center's community room for an evening celebrating the life of Scotland's most famous poet, the incomparable Robert Burns, hosted by the Roanoke Valley Scottish Society and Les Strachan. A haggis will be addressed and served with tatties and neeps, plated dinner served, toasts given, the Immortal Memory, and much more! Dinner menu includes salad with quartered scotch egg (made with turkey sausage), salmon in whisky sauce, steak pie, buttery peas, cabbage with onions, dinner rolls, and sticky toffee pudding. Music will be provided throughout the evening by the Appalachian Piping Academy, Mist on the Mountain, and others. The Floyd Historical Dancers will perform before teaching simple Scottish Country Dances to any who will join. Feel free to bring items for the silent auction, or just have fun bidding. In addition to Highland Park 12 single malt whisky provided, there will be a cash bar. Guests who desire a nearby hotel room are encouraged to consider the Quality Inn Roanoke Airport at our group rate of $89 as they will provide shuttle service to and from the hotel before and after dinner, and we will provide a rideshare there after the ceilidh. Recommended attire is Highland formal or black tie.
