The organisation was founded in 2000 in response to the dramatic decline of protected areas due to poor management and lack of funding. African Parks utilises a clear business approach to conserving Africa’s wildlife and remaining wild areas, securing vast landscapes and carrying out the necessary activities needed to protect the parks and their wildlife. I'm originally from Columbus, Ohio and currently live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I've been traveling ever since I was a wee one; first with my mama, then on my own.
I lived in Ireland for 4.5 years and wrote a book about it.
I've lived in South Africa for 4.5 years and became a safari guide, making both Cape Town and Johannesburg my home.
With 21 countries under my explorer's belt and heart I've:
-Seen African wild dogs chasing waterbucks just barely past the gate my first time in Kruger National Park
-Taught experiential English classes in China when I was 16 for kids between the ages of 6 and 12. We had so much fun. And they made me sing "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic
-Run yoga, nature, culture retreats in Ireland on the remote Sheep's Head Peninsula
-Studied survival skills and nature education in the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest
-And so much more.

It's quite common for the brus of this country to sling one back after a long hike, cycle or run. South Africa is an outdoorsy culture.
