Ruth Casselman was the founding Chief Operating Officer at Alert Labs - an IoT technology manufacturing and data analytics company specializing in reducing millions of dollars in wasted water and preventing water damage in commercial properties.
After building organizational capability, and raising capital from government funding, banks, angel investors, and venture capital to grow the business, Ruth led the merger and acquisition activities for Alert Labs’ acquisition by Watsco, Inc. Watsco is publicly-traded on the NYSE (WSO); operating the largest distribution network for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) products across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Ruth continued as the COO at Alert Labs until December 2021.
Ruth now serves as the Chair of the GTAN Angel Network Board (#1 Seed Stage Private Investor in Canada), Chair of the Accelerator Centre Board of Directors, and a Due Diligence Committee member for Impact Investing for the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
Before Alert Labs, Ruth had global responsibility for crisis management in the BlackBerry Network Operations Centers (NOC), and then transitioned to lead Public Relations for BlackBerry Enterprise and Security. Ruth earned her B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo, and is completing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Athabasca University.
