Fall Baking Championship Criteria
Who Can Enter?
Any and all people are welcome to enter the bake off! Kids and Adults of any age are welcome to participate. Both inexperienced and experienced bakers are eligible to enter, but all baked goods must be made in a home kitchen. Contestants may work individually or with a team. (Prizes will be awarded to 1 member/team only, NOT each individual.)
What Can I Win?
Three finalists will be selected for each category. One finalist from each category, representing first place, will win a blue ribbon as well as a prize package sponsored by Mimi’s Kitchen Company. Those placing in second and third place in each category will receive ribbons representing their respective placement.
What are the Categories? All baked entries must fit one of the three category descriptions.
· Perfect Pumpkin: This category is intended for baked goods which include pumpkin as an ingredient. The blue ribbon will be awarded to the best use of pumpkin according to judging criteria.
· Autumn Apple: This category is intended for baked goods which include apples as an ingredient. The blue ribbon will be awarded to the best use of apples according to judging criteria.
· Youth: This category is intended for baked goods made by bakers 18 years of age or younger. The blue ribbon will be awarded to the best overall baked good according to judging criteria.
PEOPLE'S CHOICE: This category is inclusive of all other categories. The public is invited to sample entries and vote on their favorite treat. The blue ribbon will be awarded to the entry with the most votes.
How do I Enter?
Pre-registration can be done at: www.lastfling.org/specialevents Registration is allowed on the day of the event. Check-in is between 10:00AM-12:00PM at Mimi’s Kitchen Company. Participants may enter any recipe and it does not need to be an original recipe created by the entrant.
All submissions will become property of the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Submissions must be home cooked (not store bought). Please DO NOT submit anything that requires refrigeration as the event is held outside.
All entries are to be submitted as a whole (complete pie, complete cake, complete loaf, etc.) or in the quantity of a half dozen or more. Participants must provide a disposable container for their entry. The Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will provide plates, forks and napkins for the judges. Neither the organizers of this event nor any representatives from Mimi’s Kitchen Company are in any way responsible for the distribution of your containers. In addition, all entries should be presented in a sealed container or in a new Ziploc bag or a new bag with a twist tie.
How Will Recipes Be Judged?
All entries must meet the requirements of the category entered. Recipes not meeting contest entry criteria will be disqualified.
Entries will be judged in the following criteria:
· Appearance (maximum 10 points)
· Taste (maximum 10 points)
· Creativity (maximum 10 points)
Maximum total of 30 points are possible.
How Will Finalists be Selected?
Judges are required to taste test all entries. Each judge will complete a judging sheet which will indicate each entry’s score. Each criterion will require a score of 1 to 10 dependent on that criterion. A combined score will be calculated to indicate the final scoring placement.
What Happens if I Win?
Selected finalists will be notified after a judging period, representing an approximate time of 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th. Finalists need not be present to win. Finalists will be photographed which may be used for future promotional materials for the bake off or the Sidney Fall Festival.
