Susan became director in the fall of 1990. Dance had been a big part of her life. In 1976 she toured Poland and in 1990 the former USSR with dance ensembles . She has performed through out the Pacific Northwest.
Community, as well as performance, dance is a strong focus for Susan. She, along with Penn Fix, created the Spokane Folklore Society’s Family Dance and Potluck nights to bring parents and children to enjoy dancing in a social setting. Years later, she restarted the Family Dance evening at St. John’s Cathedral. Known as a contra dance caller as well as teacher of international folk and social dance, Susan has shared her love of these social dances throughout the Pacific Northwest at schools, wedding, churches, dance camps, national workshops and festivals.
Susan believes that , along with the physical education in dance, students learn how to work together, adapt to situations, meet people in the greater community, and learn about the value of cultures in the world. These benefits, become lifelong skills that stay with young dancers throughout their lives.
