Directors
E.S. "Red" Henderson
Red organized the Silver Spurs group in 1947.  He saw the Cheyenne Mountain Dancers and wanted to have something similar in Spokane.   At the time, Red was a consultant in Physical Education to the Spokane Public School and Supervisor of Recreation for the Spokane Parks Board.   He started Silver Spurs as a way to interest students in the healthy and fun activity of folk dancing.

With Red, Silver Spurs starting touring in 1951. They performed at seven world fairs. In Canada, they perfromed at Edmonton Klondike Days for seven years, Calgary Stampede for four years. Two tours of Hawaii and three tours of Western Europe. Silver Spurs were on the Ed Sullivan show twice and on the cover of life Magazine.

Red offically retired after 35 years working directly with the dancers.  He became Director Emeritus in 1983 until he passed in 1986.

On the back of one of the very early programs was a narrative about dance.  The last sentence said:  Plato in the "laws" said, "A good education consists in knowing how to sing and dance well, and doing it often."   Red gave young people a chance to dance often and well!

Susan Dankovich
Susan became director in the fall of 1990.  Dance had been a big part of her life.   In 1976 she toured Poland and in 1990 the former USSR with dance ensembles  .  She has performed   through out the Pacific Northwest.

Community, as well as performance, dance is a strong focus for Susan.  She, along with Penn Fix, created the Spokane Folklore Society’s Family Dance and Potluck nights to bring parents and children to enjoy dancing in a social setting.   Years later, she restarted the Family Dance  evening at St. John’s Cathedral.   Known as a contra dance caller as well as teacher of international folk and social dance,  Susan has shared her love of these social dances throughout the Pacific Northwest at   schools, wedding, churches, dance camps, national workshops and festivals.

Susan believes that , along with the physical education in dance,   students learn how to work together, adapt to situations, meet people in the greater community, and learn about the value of cultures in the world. These  benefits, become lifelong skills that stay with young dancers throughout their lives.

Cathy Dark
1979-1984, 1987-1990

Cathy graduated after 6 years with Silver Spurs in 1972.  She earned a undergraduate degree in Dance at University of Oregon and a Master in Dance at University of London.

Cathy has taught, performed and choreographed throughout the Pacific Northwest.   Under Cathy, Silver Spurs toured Europe twice, Mexico, the US  west coast, Alaska and Great Britain.

Cathy wanted to help young people gain the enjoyable fulfilment that she experiences through dance.
Konni Telford
1984 - 1987
Konni was active in Silver Spurs as a performer from 1976-1981.  She attended University of Montana, studying dance and Elementary Education.

In 1984 Konni returned to Spokane and accepted an offer to be Artistic Director of Spurs.  She took the group on tour to the World's fair in Vancouver CA, Hawaii and Disney World.
Wynn Stoddard
1978-79
