June 14th, 7pm at the Wildish Theater.
Amidst the rise of fascism, oligarchy, emboldened white-supremacy and record-breaking anti-trans legislations, Queer Choir Collective holds fast to the belief that "the role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible" (Toni Cade Bambara). It is from this ethos that we present:

Sing the Body: Queer Vocal Festival -  a celebration of 2SLGBTQIA+ and Global Majority voices, using song as a tool for connection, resistance, and igniting collective power.

WHO: YOU!!!

WHAT: Sing the Body invites queer singers and co-conspirators of all levels into an immersive experience of workshops and community singing, with a pinnacle concert featuring an epic line-up of vocal artists and ensemble.

WHERE: The majority of the festival events take place at The Wildish Theater in Springfield, OR. See the full schedule below for more details.

WHEN: June 13th –15th, 2025.

Sing the Body is a space for healing, expression, community, joy and liberation—open to all, and centered on 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC singers.

We aim to co-create a space that centers:

🟣 the amplification of queer joy.
🟣 a collective remembering that our bodies are OURS and our voices need not stay silent.
🟣 both sanctuary and defiance, a way to survive—and thrive—together.

Guilty Pleasure - An accessible guide to pop songwriting with Be Steadwell
You may define pop music simply as commercially successful, literally popular music.  But when you consider some of the most celebrated songs of all time-you’ll notice another commonality.  Accessibility.  Using earnest lyricism, Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” (written by Dolly Parton) expressed a sentiment that millions of people could relate to.  The Beatles’ “Hey Jude”, a simple love song from a friend’s perspective, tells the age-old lesson of following your heart.  Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” captured the texture and angst of a generation.  All three of these songs sold over eight million singles.  If the goal of art is to communicate and connect with people-pop music achieves that goal on a grand scale.  Love it or hate it, pop music is relatable, accessible, and effective.  So why not try your hand at writing it?
