Gun violence is one of the greatest social problems the City of Birmingham and surrounding areas are facing right now. Issues like these can seem so big that some people might feel that there’s nothing they can do about it. But the Northwest Alabama Conference AME Church Social Action Team and other partners are determined to make a difference. We won’t write our families off and will do our part to help our communities affected by gun-related crimes.

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. Gun violence, is the leading cause of death among children and teens in the US, has broken the hearts of many mothers, fathers, grandparents and sibling. Just like in history the Black Church has been the conscience of the nation. WE, the members of the Northwest Alabama Conference Social Action Teams are FED UP and decided to take A STAND. We're ready to stir up action, prevention and awareness in our communities.

On June 17, 2023 from 9 am to 3 pm all roads lead to the Headquarters of the Ninth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church at the Daniel Payne Community Plaza located at 1500 Daniel Payne Drive, Birmingham, AL 35214. Bishop Harry L. Seawright the Presiding Prelate of the Ninth District, Mr. Brandon Cleveland, Executive Director of the Daniel Payne College Legacy Village Foundation, Inc., and the entire Northwest Alabama Social Action Team has planned a  Family Friendly  Festival .  WE CAN END GUN VIOLENCE JUST STAND TOGETHER.

Community Voice Matters
“We want our community to understand that no place is immune from gun violence. It is a public health epidemic that is taking lives, terrorizing our communities, and hurting our city. We want to support strategies that equip our citizens with conflict resolution skills, increase opportunities for reconciliation, and stop this cycle of violence.”
~ Bishop Harry L. Seawright
Presiding Prelate of the Ninth
 Episcopal District of AME Church

“So far this year, our city has
experienced more than 50 homicides, and history has shown that 90 percent of these killings involve guns. We must do more as a community to protect our young people from being caught up on either side of this violence.”
~Thomasine Jackson
North West Alabama Conference Womens Missionary Society President
