WHO & WHY Startup Sunrise is for founders, innovators, community leaders, creatives, and anyone curious about the topic of the month. Start your day with inspiration, real founder stories, and meaningful conversations!
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Nancy Kirstein, The Good Earth Farm Nancy Kirstein is the owner of The Good Earth Farm, a 25-acre agritourism operation just south of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, anchored by a restored 1897 historic barn and known for its pizza and bingo nights, weddings, and the on-site Happy Farm Animal Sanctuary. Known locally as "Farmer Nancy," she brings a direct, warm, and unapologetically honest voice to running a small agritourism business — speaking candidly about what it really takes to diversify revenue, price fairly, and build something sustainable on the land. Nancy also serves as Director of Continuing Education at IEC Dakotas.
Will & Sherilyn Ortman, Berrybrook Organics Will & Sherilyn Ortman met in college and were married in 1998. Having grown up on farms, they soon discovered they had both run strawberry u-picks and sweet corn patches in their youth. They went on to create an ice cream together, making the first flavor: strawberry, and now offer a variety of homemade ice cream flavors. The Ortmans have dabbled through the years in hydroponics, an indoor winter garden program, and a peach orchard, to name a few. Each one of these ventures has had two aims: improving food quality and accessibility, as well as creating opportunities for their sons to stay on the farm. Jamie Boley, Mayborn Acres Jamie Boley is the owner of Mayborn Acres, a sustainable, pasture-based farm near Parker, South Dakota. Through ethically raising Freedom Ranger chickens and advocating for local food systems, Jamie is passionate about making high-quality, locally raised food more accessible while promoting regenerative farming practices. He also enjoys teaching others about raising, processing, and preparing their own poultry, helping more people reconnect with where their food comes from.
