SESSION 1 U.S. Families Investing in Foreign Real Estate: Goals, Ownership, and Family Pitfalls Presented by JC Prieto Williams& Ricardo Cevallos 1:30 pm - 2:20 pm
This opening session will frame the outbound side of the program by focusing on U.S. families acquiring real estate outside the United States. The speakers will address why families pursue foreign real estate, how they approach ownership in practice, and the non-tax issues that often create problems later, including title, family dynamics, incapacity, succession, probate, and cross-jurisdictional coordination.
SESSION 2 Foreign Real Estate as a Mobility Tool: Residency and Citizenship by Investment Presented by Kristen Andreasen 2:25 pm - 3:15 pm
This session will continue the outbound discussion by examining how foreign real estate may fit within residency and citizenship by investment planning. The discussion will cover typical client motivations, the types of programs in which real estate can qualify as the investment component, and the most popular jurisdictions for families seeking mobility, optionality, and long-term planning opportunities.
SESSION 3 Foreign Investors in U.S. Real Estate: Structuring the Investment Presented by Raul Navarro 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
This session will shift to the inbound perspective and focus on how foreign families, private investors, and investment vehicles commonly structure investments into U.S. real estate. The discussion will cover practical holding structures, family office and private equity style approaches, and selected estate planning and structuring considerations arising when non-U.S. persons invest in U.S. real estate, including larger hospitality and commercial holdings.
SESSION 4 U.S. Tax and Estate Tax Consequences of Cross-Border Real Estate Presented by Stu Myhill 4:30 pm - 5:20 pm
