What will we do?As you all know, Steve would have hated a stuffy formal affair with everyone wearing black, so think of this as more of a gathering to share, laugh, cry and recount some of the many ridiculous stories that you all shared with Steve. We will be at Zion Cafe from 3pm until 8pm, feel free to come and go but we will start the speaking/sharing from 4pm. There is an indoor and outdoor space for all weather eventualities. We will share some of Steve's photos and films and we welcome you to bring your favourite photo of Steve (or anything else that reminds you of him).
Food and drinkWe will provide light bites and there will be a bar with a cafe staff member selling a range of drinks. We will not get access to the kitchen but we will provide paper plates and cutlery for everyone who wants to eat. If you wish to bring a dish that would be great, you can specify this when you RSVP.
What should you bring?Mostly just bring yourself! We'd love it if you could bring your fondest, funniest or strongest memory of Steve written on a piece of paper. It can be as short and simple as you like (preferably not too long). You can read your memory out to the rest of us during the time we've planned for speaking/sharing (after 4pm) if you want to. We plan to add all these memories (whether you wish to speak or not) to a physical scrapbook. Alongside all your written contributions, the book will include photos of him and photos taken by him, we'd love for you to contribute your own photos to the book as well if you have any. After the event, we will scan everything in so that we can share it with anyone who wants to see it, especially those who couldn't make the memorial.
Feel free to bring a guest however, we are a little bit limited with the capacity of the venue so please only come if you'd like to and don't drag along unwilling guests!
What if you cannot make the memorial but would like to celebrate his life? If you cannot make the memorial but would like to participate please reach out to
[email protected] with your memory and we can read it out or put it in the book as you wish. You can also RSVP with not attending so that we know not to expect you and can email you later. We will also aim to have Zoom running if you want to pop in virtually, we will email those who RSVP 'cannot attend' with the details of this nearer the time.
What do I need to do now?
Please RSVP - we need to have a sense of how many will attend so that we can plan food and make sure that we are not over capacity. If you are coming as a group please make sure that everyone RSVPs (or you can add up to two guests when you RSVP).
