Knowledge is frequently underappreciated - and often undercommunicated.
This workshop aims to give you permission to communicate more effectively, helping improve communication about your course, your research or your discipline.

You know your work is not boring, and you are not a boring person. So why do so few people listen and really engage when you tell them about it?

The Future Campus team have decades of experience working with researchers to translate their deep insights into bite-sized chunks that will engage outside audiences.

While Generative AI tools are invaluable in providing a quick summary, this course looks at the importance of understanding and owning your own story, to give you a better chance of being seen, heard and understood.

AI can't tell you what the three most important lessons are from your research, and it can't identify the best image and opening paragraph to cut through to your audience without your insight.

With this program we will look at:
Strategy - Who needs to know? What are they most interested in? What else are they seeing at the same time? When is the best time for you to engage them?
Communication - Is your work inherently fascinating, or do you need to explain why it is important? What's the most important sentence that you want to get across? How can you package your communication to prioritise and engage?
Impact - How are you measuring your results? What if the comms fall flat, how do you learn from your first effort? How can you maximise impact in a measurable way?

Practical skills to help you cut through

This is not more media training!

Not Being Boring is not about notching up a gold star for another headline or podcast mention. It's about getting results that really matter to you by reinvigorating the way you communicate.

It is about identifying clear goals and then implementing a clear plan to achieve them, so that your communications help you achieve your goals - whether that is research impact, public engagement, attracting students or breaking through with donors.

This workshop is specifically crafted for academics and professional staff who don't work in communications teams but want to build their capability to improve communications with a range of audiences.

The program is targeting staff with specific objectives, for example:
* Lecturer looking at better ways to engage with prospective HDR students
* Course convenor wanting to explain the strengths of your research program
* Professor wanting to build community interest in your research

* Research office staff wanting to create updates that people will read
* Faculty Administrator wanting to create social media posts to promote research
