Who is Maya Kowalski?  And why did a Florida jury recently award her and her family over 250 Million dollars in their lawsuit against John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida? And what in the world does this have to do with us?
Maya's case is complex and troubling. There are comlplicated differential diagnoses, conflicting treatment recommendations, the involvement of Florida's Child Protection Services, the suicide of Maya's mother, and other issues raised by her illness and treatment before and during her treatment at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
As part of the trial, hospital staff, including social workers were called to testify. We will utilize acutal clips form the trial to explore these issues and to discuss how social workers should prepare for being called to testify in a court proceeding.

This program is approved for 3 ethics and 3 clinical CE clock hours by Impact Counseling & Support Services, authorized by the Louisiana Board of Social Work Examiners.
