Milly Withers
Hey, I'm a calligraphy educator and demonstrator, with a passion for vibrant colours. I have been doing calligraphy for over 8 years and in 2016 I set up Blink Lettering. It started as an Instagram account, where I shared my daily calligraphy practice, and became a place where I built my confidence within the lettering and calligraphy community. Fast forward to today, I have taught over 3,000 students online and in-person. I love sharing my knowledge and seeing my students progress and flourish, some have even gone on to set up their own calligraphy business and teach as well.

I entered the magical world of calligraphy in 2010, bringing to it my internationally award-winning work in the fashion industry. This experience has helped inform my signature flourished style, and I am passionate about helping others find their own. Since starting Illyboo Designs, I have taught over 500 people face-to-face and over 11,000 students via online groups in brush and dip pen calligraphy. I’ve also had the privilege of teaching students from across the world in intimate and larger settings, including flying to Tokyo earlier this year to teach for the company Paper Tree. Over the past decade I have been fortunate to have had a wide variety of projects whilst working with some wonderful brands and companies such as Gucci, Carolina Herrera and Christian Louboutin.

I'm Jess, a lover of art, interior, food, and all things colour. My company, ’Boards By Jess', is a creative studio specialising in calligraphy, hand-painted signs, and illustration. Since 2018, I've been working with local businesses and couples to elevate events and spaces with my hand-painted artwork. I pride myself in creating signs, murals, and stationery that are unique, high-quality, and connect with people and their stories. My journey started with chalkboards and has evolved to experimenting with different materials and techniques. However my giant bag full of paint pens comes everywhere I go!
🪧 My business started with no intention of being a business - I used to create chalkboards at a wedding venue I waitressed at and started sharing my artwork on Instagram (a bit of confidence and constant sharing got my first clients!)
👩🏫 Although my business has developed over 5 years, I still love learning new techniques and creative skills. Right now I am practising the art of traditional sign painting and gold foiling. This was inspired by a workshop I attended in May taught by a guy who trained in the 80s!

I’m a modern calligrapher and illustrator. My artistic journey started with a passion for drawing as a child, I studied at Central St Martins, The University of The Arts, London and today I use calligraphy to design my own varied product range and bespoke wedding stationery. Creating brings me happiness and I hope my love and passion for making beautiful things will make other people happy too.
