Toronto Trail Care Day
Drop by Mimico Square in Amos Waites Park for a fun-filled day of trail cleanup activities as we come together to care for the Trail.

Even if you can't stay for the whole day, feel free to stop in and learn more about the Trans Canada Trail, the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and several Etobicoke community groups who care for and benefit from the Trail. We'll have information booths and friendly faces to answer all your questions.

Guided Tour
Join a walking tour along the Trail led by the Friends of Humber Bay Park. Come learn about the local ecology and how you can help protect, preserve and enhance the parkland making it a wildlife oasis. Tours will depart Mimico Square.

Gardening Activity
Kids (and kids at heart) there’s a flower bed that needs some TLC and we are looking for some junior gardeners to help plant perennial flowers in the garden beds near the Trail. See details below.

Activities
Litter Drive
Come care for the Trail by collecting litter. Starting right after the opening ceremonies, the Mimico Residents Association will lead this activity – let’s see how much litter we can collect! Gloves and a limited number of litter pickers will be available. A snack and drink will be provided afterwards for participants by Bird & Beans Café.
Sign Care
Trail signs are an important way for users to navigate the trail and connect to local transportation such as the TTC & Go. Come out and help paint trailhead sign posts and clean up graffiti on  signs on the Trail. Safety equipment and supplies will be provided. A snack and drink will be provided afterwards for participants by Bird & Beans Café.
Gardening
Calling all kid gardeners! We need your help to replant a flowerbed with native flowers  in the park. This activity will take place on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail near the Superior Ave park entrance at 1:00 PM.
Guided Tours
Friends of Humber Bay Park will be leading walking tours along the Trail. Come learn about the local ecology and how you can help protect, preserve and enhance the parkland making it a wildlife oasis. Tours will depart Mimico Square at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Kids Scavenger Hunt
Drop by Oak Learners booth for kids activities and a self-guided scavenger hunt on the Trail. Return to the booth once you’ve found everything on the list to get a free snack from Birds & Beans Café and pick up your Great Lakes Waterfront Trail patch.

From 10 AM to 2 PM stop by the Trans Canada Trail and Great Lakes Waterfront Trail booths for maps and information to plan your trail outings this summer. We are joined by a number of other great community organizations including: Friends of Humber Bay, LiveGreen Toronto, Mimico by the Lake, Mimico Residents Association and Stop Plastics.

Do I need to register for this event?
No you don’t need to register for this event, drop in anytime between 10 AM and 2 PM on Saturday June 1, 2024.

No, this event is free to the public.

Yes, there are several activities you can take part in, see the schedule for more details.

What happens if it rains?
The event is happening rain or shine, dress according to the weather. We will cancel the event if severe weather is expected.

Is the event accessible?

Will there be photos taken at this event?
Yes, there will be a photographer present and local media may attend to report on the event. Look for “Notice of Photography” signs displayed at the event for more details.

Can I volunteer at the event?
Yes, we are happy to have extra help on Trail Care Day. Please email [email protected] to express your interest in volunteering.
What is the Trail Care activity?
There are three Trail Care activities you can take part in. The first is a litter drive, volunteers will collect garbage along the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and surrounding parks.
The second activity is trail sign cleanup and repair. Volunteers will clean graffiti and paint trail signpost along the Trail. Both of these activities begin immediately following the opening ceremonies.
The third activity is to plat perennials in the park garden, this will take place at 1 PM. 

Do I need to register for the Trail Care activity?
No pre-registration is required. Please arrive at 10 AM to check in as a volunteer. You will be required to sign a waiver before participating.

Will I receive directions on what to do?
Yes, the Mimico Residents Association will begin the session with a safety briefing and directions on what areas to collect trash. The Great Lakes Waterfront trail volunteers will provide sign repair and cleanup directions.

What do I need to bring to participate in the Trail Care activity?
You don’t need to bring anything, we will supply all the tools and safety equipment you need for the Trail Care activity. Remember to bring a water bottle, there will be a refill station on-site.
