Trent Zelazny left this world on November 28, 2024, his 48th birthday, due to acute liver failure. He was the son of the late science fiction writer Roger Zelazny and his wife Judith Zelazny.
Born and raised in Santa Fe, Trent’s creative soul and free spirit found many outlets for expression. In love with music from the start, he taught himself how to play the guitar, bass, and keyboard. After taking drumming lessons, he played around town for many years in two primary bands, Monkeyshines and The Floors. As a film aficionado, he worked at Video Library for well over a decade. Naturally gifted at drawing, he also spent time working for the company Flamdoodle Animation.
In 1995, he married Caiti Case who gave birth to their only son, Corwin. They later divorced, and in the late 2000’s Trent moved to Florida where he encountered a tragic personal loss. As a result, alcoholism led him down a sad and broken path, which was almost the end of the road for him, but, fortunately, fate intervened. He went to rehab, got and remained sober, and channeled his trauma into martial arts and writing.
Though he had been writing since he was a child, and all throughout his years, it now became his main passion. When he wasn’t working his part-time day job at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, he was pumping out stories in the genres of horror, crime, noir, and post-apocalyptic fiction. Some of his best sellers were Too Late to Call Texas, Voiceless, and To Sleep Gently–a story about a daring robbery of the El Dorado hotel in Santa Fe.
Trent became a prominent voice for people struggling with depression and post traumatic stress disorder. He never shied away from talking about the difficult and unpleasant side of life, and many people thanked him for it.
He was knocked down many times in his life, but, like the resilient survivor he was, he always got back up again. Trent was an amazingly generous person, who always carried with him a smile and a goofy sense of humor. He was one-of-a-kind who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his beloved son, Corwin Zelazny, older brother Devin Zelazny, and little sister Shannon Zelazny.
