While not quite a landslide, the contest between Villanova and the Howard Bison on Tuesday was still a pretty decisive one as the Wildcats wrapped it up with a 100-81 victory at home. Villanova's forward Brandon Slater looked sharp as he had 23 points.
Meanwhile, the Volunteers took their game at home on Sunday with ease, bagging a 94-62 win over the E. Tennessee State Buccaneers. Forward Olivier Nkamhoua and Kennedy Chandler were among the main playmakers for Tennessee as the former had 23 points along with eight rebounds and the latter had 16 points and six assists in addition to five boards.
Barring any buzzer beaters, Villanova is expected to win a tight contest. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past two games, so buyers beware.
Villanova is now 2-1 while Tennessee sits at 2-0. A pair of last-season numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Wildcats rank third in college basketball when it comes to steals given up per game, with only four on average. But the Volunteers enter the matchup with 7.3 steals per game on average, good for sixth best in college basketball. Ball control might end up being a major factor in this one.
