Why We are HereReclaiming herself, one breath at a time, is more than a message. It is a reality for far too many women. Violence and abuse are deeply woven into the lives of women in our communities every single day. Nearly 1 in 3 women in the United States will experience physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. These numbers reflect only what is reported and measured and do not capture the full reality of women’s experiences, most of which go unseen, unreported, and uncounted. Behind every statistic is a real woman—a mother, daughter, sister, friend—living with fear, pain, and the lasting effects of abuse from relationships and environments that should have been safe.
Trauma does not only live in memory, it lives in the body and nervous system, keeping the brain in a constant state of alert that can make it difficult to rest, trust, focus, or feel safe long after harm has ended. Through breath, movement, mindfulness, and sound, the nervous system can begin to settle and a sense of safety can slowly return. This is why we gather and raise our voices in support. Ember in Bloom Foundation provides survivors and advocates with trauma-informed practices to help them reconnect, heal, and move forward.
Your presence at this gala helps ensure that no woman has to reclaim herself alone.
