Dr Kathrin Busch earned her doctoral degree with a thesis on acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome and has been part of the LMU team ever since. (You know how they changed the name from HGE to AHDS, and it took you 2 years to get used to saying the new name? You can thank Kathrin for that!)
Kathrin has a special passion for gastroenterology, and
her research focuses on the intestinal microbiome, its influence on other organ systems, and faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). She is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and an EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and a sought-after speaker both nationally and internationally, sharing her expertise on cutting-edge treatments in small animal internal medicine.
Dr Matt Annear
Specialist Veterinary Ophthalmologist

Dr Matt Annear served as Assistant Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Ohio State University, where he also earned a Master’s degree researching canine and human childhood blindness.
With a passion for both teaching and advancing veterinary ophthalmology, Matt has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters. Since returning to Australia in 2016, he has worked in referral specialty practice, combining his expertise with a dedication to improving his patients’ quality of life while valuing the animal-human bond.
Matt’s interests span all areas of ophthalmology, from medical management of eye diseases to performing advanced surgical procedures such as cataract removal, corneal grafting, and glaucoma surgery. .
Dr Mark Westman
Veterinary Microbiologist
BVSc (Hons) PhD MANZCVS (Animal Welfare)
Mark serves as a Veterinary Microbiologist and Team Leader of the Bacteriology section at the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute. He completed a PhD at the University of Sydney, focusing on feline retroviral diseases, particularly FIV and FeLV. During his postdoctoral research at the University of Glasgow's Centre for Virus Research he investigated antibody responses in FIV and FeLV vaccinated cats.
Early in his career Mark Westman dedicated a decade to shelter medicine, working with organisations such as RSPCA NSW and the Animal Welfare League NSW. In 2012, he co-founded Pets in the Park, a charity providing free veterinary care to pets owned by the homeless, which has since expanded across multiple Australian states.
