Tony Esposito, PhD
DIRECTOR AND LIGHT CONCEPT LEAD, IWBI
Dr. Esposito serves as the Director and Light Concept Lead for
the International WELL Building Institute. He is a lighting quality researcher with a background in lighting design and engineering.
He is the Founder and Head Research Scientist at Lighting
Research Solutions LLC and Co-Chair of the Color Committee
of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).
About the seminar...
In the modern world where Americans spend 90% of their time indoors*, quantity and quality of light is a topic of numerous research studies as it pertains to it's effects on human health and wellness. How important is exposure to light; how do we get enough of it; and how do we make our buildings better for the humans who spend so much of their daily lives inside of them? This conversation goes beyond "white tuning" light and asks the question, "is human-centric lighting a thing?" and, if so, what are the parameters that determine a good human centric lighting design?

You have questions. We have answers!
Where do I park?
There are a few parking spaces available at YogaSoul. There is also street parking as well as a paid lot across the street. If you would like an Uber/Lyft code, please indicate so on the registration form, and Jessica will hook you up.
What do I wear?
While we are at a yoga studio and may be participating in gentle movement, the activities are meant to be done in typical work attire. Come however you are comfortable.
Can I just sign up for one event or the other?
Yes. When you fill out your registration you can choose from either or both events to attend.
Do I need to plan to stay for the full 2 hour lunch?
No, the lunch recess is meant to be flexible. You do not need to be there for the entirety of the event. We will temporarily pause entry into the space during the breathwork sessions, otherwise come and go as you please. See the Schedule section above for planning purposes.
What is Improv and what can I expect from this show?
Improv is a form of comedy where players take inspiration from a word, conversation, or in this case a mini-lecture, and create characters and stories with the aim of making you laugh. Everything is made up on the spot and nothing is pre-determined. You never know what could happen. Improv Science Theater 4000 is a comedy group that formed in 2019 and has been performing regularly ever since. The premise is to bring in an expert in any field to teach the audience something and IST4K improvises off of that teaching. Previous guests have been leading experts in saber-toothed tiger research and Danielle Breezy, Nashville's meteorologist! This is a public show. We will have a section of tickets, and DesignLight will cover any snack and refreshment you'd like during the show. Feel free to bring any guest to this show. Also note that this is a true comedy club show - while IST4K strives to be inclusive and respectful of all people at all times, there may be coarse word choice on occasion. Fun bonus fact: Lindsay Frederick of Design Light is an original member of this group and will be hosting this show!
Join us on April 18
Don't miss out. Space is limited to 50 people.
