CHRIST & THE COSMOS: A SYMPOSIUM ON THE ABSOLUTE PRIMACY OF CHRIST
Join us on July 12
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.” - Colossians 1:15
Join us at Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church (near Chicago) July 12-14, 2024 for a grace-filled weekend of conferences on CHRIST & THE COSMOS: A SYMPOSIUM ON THE ABSOLUTE PRIMACY OF JESUS CHRIST.
Why did the Eternal Son of God become man?
In Medieval times all of the great scholastics, including Saints like Anselm, Albert the Great, Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure and Bl. John Duns Scotus, grappled with the question of God's primary motive in bringing about the Incarnation:
Was it because of sin - ergo, no sin, no Incarnation?
Or was Emmanuel (God With Us) God's original plan - ergo, sin or no sin, the Incarnation was always to be?
Many Eastern Church Fathers had also pondered similar questions, anticipating many of the developments especially in what became known as the "FranciscanThesis": Emmanuel was always part of God's predestined plan for humanity and the cosmos.
The objective of this Symposium is to create an opportunity for scholars, catechists, and clergy from East and West to present theological arguments in favor of the absolute primacy of Christ and to create a resource - a handbook, as it were - for theologians, catechists, clergy and faithful alike who want to learn more about the beauty and intricacies of this Christocentric perspective of creation and salvation history!
Besides the presentations the weekend will include meals, the Divine Liturgy/Mass (Byzantine Rite) and prayer.
