1. STRUCTURE
Competition consists of two parts:
Call out Mentals
(only L3 and above kids are eligible for this; more details below).
Written competition sheet (All levels eligible; more details below)
Note: Whether the students will solve mentally or on abacus depends on competition level (see below).
All L3 and Above kids will participate in BOTH parts of the competition (doing only one part is not an option).
All F1,F2,F3,F4, L1 and L2 kids will only do the written competition sheet portion.
2. PRIZES
The online and in-person students of the same level compete in the same category.
For the Call out Mentals, there will be one MENTALS champion trophy for each PRIZE LEVEL.
For Competition Sheet , there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies for each PRIZE LEVEL.
3. PRIZE LEVEL is defined as
F1 (consists of **competition level F1 Dir and F1 OHH)
F2 ( consists of **competition level F2 THH+5)
F3 (**competition level L2/F3)
F4(**competition level L2/F4)
L1(**competition level L1 Dir, L1 OHH)
L2 (**competition level L1 THH+5, L2/F3 combi, L2/F4)
L3,L4,L5,L6,L7,L8,L9,L10 ( same as **competition levels)
**In order to make the competition fair to everyone a different competition level is assigned to the child based on the number of classes they have completed and concepts they have covered. If your child has just started a new level and not completed the required number of classes, they may be assigned a lower level.
You will be notified of your child's competition level and prize level. Please refer to COMPETITION LEVEL WHEN DOING SHEETS and refer to prize level for prize distribution.

5. DETAILS for CALL OUT MENTALS Competition
ALL level kids will be solving a total of 40 questions.
PLEASE NOTE: All kids are not expected to be able to solve each one. The highest score in each level will get the MENTALS CHAMPION TITLE.
In case of a tie, there maybe tiebreakers.
Expected levels of difficulty for practice by level:
d= digit, r=rows or numbers e.g. 1d5r means 1 digit 5 numbers.
Please note kids may be doing more or less than their level expectation. Practice makes a lot of difference. We hope they can practice and become better and try to do more than what is expected from their level.
We will be sending a sample call out set for you to see how fast or how slow to call a question. The link will be posted here later.
6. DETAILS for COMPETITION SHEET
Please check the competition level assigned to your child. THIS maybe different from current level the child is in.
1) Your child will be given a SET with 100 questions. (2 SHEETS OF PAPER)
2) Based on the level, these 100 questions may be addition/subtraction only or may include multiplication and/or division.
3) Your child will have 7.5 min to finish as many questions as they can .
4) They can go in any order, they can skip questions, anything they want.
5) They need to make sure the blank space after "equal to" sign has the answer and it fits in the box.
6) They can write anything they want above the question as long as only the answer is in the blank space
7) Look out for tips to help improve speed and accuracy. These will be added here and emailed to you.
The child who gets the highest number of questions correct will get the prize. In case of ties, multiple prizes will be given.
PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE SEEN UNBELIEVABLE PROGRESS WITH PRACTICE. The first time a child might only get 10-20 questions out of 100 in 7.5 min. But you may be surprised to see what they end up with. THE GOAL IS TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES AND GET BETTER regardless of what other kids are doing.
Also keep in mind your child may perform different in the actual competition due to the competition pressure - the more they practice, the higher the chance of consistency.
Practice sheet booklet will be available for pickup. More details to follow. Link to print addition practice sheets will also be added here. Practice session details will also be sent by email. Please stay tuned for tips to improve scores in the competition.
Just like most other competitions, WE DO NOT SHARE SCORES OR ANSWERSHEETS OF THE CHILDREN FOR THE COMPETITION.

7. ONLINE COMPETITION - March 29TH 2025
If you are not able to join in person, GOOD NEWS !! You still have the option to participate in the competition. You will be competing against other kids online and in person at the same level. The online competition will be on Saturday March 29th between 9am-12pm. Time slot will be given based on enrollments. There will be a separate timeslot for the Call Out Mentals portion for L3 and above

You will need the following:
1) 2 cameras so we can see the child working and the screen the child is looking at. A laptop that can focus on the paper and another device (maybe a phone that shows screen or surrounding)
2) Good internet connection to log into zoom - Preferably Hard Wired internet
3) Access to printer. The sheet will be sent to you at the time of your timeslot
4) RED or BLUE PEN to CROSS OUT any questions that are not done
5) Access to whatsapp or text message
MENTALS CALL OUT
1) A form will be sent where child will need to enter name , email and level
2) Video will be played for 40questions
3) Child would have to write answers in the form directly. NO PAPER OR PEN. Make sure the child attends enough practice sessions so they dont have issues.

WRITTEN SHEETS FORMAT
a)You will enter child first name and last in in link below to get sheet. https://bomsheets.vercel.app/ (Same link will be used for final). This will only be available at the beginning of timeslot.
b)You will have 5 mins to print the paper.
c)7.5 min timer will start exactly 5 min after sheet is sent on ZOOM chat.
d)As soon is timer is over you will be required to put pencils down and cross out
questions not done with a RED PEN. Example will be shown in practice sessions.
e)The answer sheets will need to be uploaded to google form https://forms.gle/e4typQviCGxTLzcZ8 (Same link will be used for FINAL) within 5 min of competition ending and while we are on zoom. Any submissions after 5 min will be disqualified.
f)Make sure you get approval from coordinator that submission looks ok before you leave.
PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL BE UNABLE TO ACCOMODATE OR GIVE ANY EXTRA TIME FOR TECHNICAL ISSUES. PLEASE BE SURE TO TEST SETUP ON MARCH 22nd. Please contact us with any questions or let us know if you would like to test any other setup we would be more than happy to arrange a time.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTIONS WILL LEAD TO IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION WITHOUT ANY REFUNDS.
Winners will be announced on March 30th along with other students. We will try to live stream the prize distribution, however the Internet at ICC is not very reliable. There is a possibility we might not be able to live stream in that case results will be shared later.
Another suggestion incase livestream doesn't work would be to ask a class mate and do a video call with them.

In the spirit of encouraging dedication and hard work, we are excited to announce BEST EFFORTS CHALLENGE TROPHY THIS YEAR AGAIN!!! PLEASE SAVE ALL PRACTICE SHEETS
PLEASE READ THE ENTRY RULES AND DETAILS:
Each set has 100 questions.
- Count all the valid SETS done on or after 2/10/2025
- A Link will be sent to enter count of SETS on March 28th morning where you will enter count of sheets done by your child DUE by 6 PM sharp. Link will be disabled at 6PM and entry will not be considered.
- Top 10 students that have highest number of SETS will get a CALL . Please be sure to keep phone on and available. We will be calling on the phone number entered in form.
- Top 10only to submit the SETS on March 30th in the center. We will make sure SETS are valid and count is correct.
- Top 5 students will Receive trophy on the day of competition. THIS IS NOT BY LEVEL THIS IS PURELY BASED ON NUMBER OF 7.5 MIN SETS
Valid Set- A set is considered valid if:
- The set is completed between 2/10/25 and 3/28/25. It should have DATE and TIME printed on the top.
- The set should be graded and has the score on TOP right.

Special Instructions:
- Some questions may have negative answers. Children can ignore those questions.
- The actual competition will NOT have negative answers for Level 5 and below.
- Level 4 and up have 2 sheets per set. All levels should have 100 questions for each set.
- Children can solve in any order and skip any questions they like, the goal is to get the most number of correct questions.
- Children might not be able to finish 100 questions… that is OK!! The goal is to try to improve as much as possible.
