Available Workshops

Light Up Musical Card (recommended age range: 14+):
Greeting cards have changed greatly over the years. What once use to be a simple piece of printed paper is now evolved into sounds and lights. Join us as we explore electrical engineering by building greeting cards from scratch that contains LED lights and sound. One workshop is available and starts at 9am, running for 45 minutes.

Light Up Card (recommended age range: 7+):
This activity is a scaled down version of the Light Up Musical Card above, but geared to the younger crowd. Same experience without the sound. Three workshops are available starting at 10:15am, 11am, and 12:30pm, running for 30 minutes each.

Line Following Robot (recommended age range: 13+):
Ever wonder how a roomba works? How does it know to where to go? How does it know not to fall down stairs? This activity will demonstrate electrical engineering as you construct a line following robot with only the use of basic circuitry. Two workshops are available starting at 9am and 10am, running 45 minutes each.

Prosthetic Hand (recommended age range: 14+):
We use our hands for so many things. Can you imagine what life would be like without a hand? Help us give back to those in need by exploring mechanical engineering and building a real prosthetic hand which will be donated to a child who was born without one. See this video for more information about the Helping Hands program. One workshop is available starting at 11:30am, running for 90 minutes

Drones (recommended age range: 12+):
It's a Bird! It's a Plane! No.....It's a Drone! Explore software engineering by building a graphical interface which will be used to send commands to a mini-drone. Participants will learn how to program a drone to takeoff, land, and even perform aerial maneuvers. Three workshops available starting at 9am, 10:30am, and 12pm, running for 45 minutes each.

Customer Experience Center - Fusion Flight Deck
The Pro Line Fusion® integrated avionics system has features, such as the industry’s first touch-control primary flight displays, integrated head-up vision systems and powerful weather threat detection, help pilots fly with precision anywhere, anytime. The Customer Experience Center allows us to show you our current offerings along with new features and concepts that have not yet made it to the market in a full featured flight simulator.

Advanced Flight Deck (CFD Lab)
This concept flight deck was developed to integrate and evaluate new Collins' technology. These capabilities include Vision Systems (Synthetic, Enhanced, and Combined Vision), Pilot Support Systems that monitor the pilot's fatigue level through eye tracking, as well as haptic seats that can be used to alert the pilot in new and novel ways.

Collins Aerospace uses virtual reality and video gaming technology to evaluate new products for manufacturing and perform early training. As part of this, the Simulation Lab provides a space where everyone can experience designs of new products in 3D as well as interact with them using a virtual reality headset and controllers.

The Environmental Effects Engineering test labs can replicate virtually every hostile environmental condition that Collins Aerospace products will encounter in the course of their working life. This includes weather effects, vibration, and radio frequency interference. So check out how we shake, rattle and roll our products into production!

CAMEL Lab (US citizens only)
In CAMEL (Component and Material Evaluation Lab) you will see the microscopic worlds that exist in everyday objects using our Scanning Electron Microscope, explore the fascinating internal workings of common electronic devises with our 3D CT X-Ray, and witness the beautiful kaleidoscope of color that helps prevent counterfeiting, viewed through our high-power microscopes.

Displays Lab
The Display Products Demo Room showcases both current and future state Avionics Display Technology. Stop in to see our head down flight displays that can be seen on commercial airliners, military helicopters and business jets! Other highlights include LED backlights, optical bonding, 3D, touch screens, and emissive displays.
