Veteran Nature Retreat
Homeward Bound Adirondacks would like to invite you to a private Veteran Nature Retreat. The retreat will be Labor Day weekend, September 04 - 06, 2026 at Arbutus Great Camp in the Huntington Wildlife Forest in Newcomb, NY.   Register now and join us for a weekend of nature therapy in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Meet and recreate with other veterans.

If you’ve never attended a HBA 3-day nature retreat, or if you have never attended a retreat at this location, now is your chance. Priority goes to first time veterans and next will be those veterans who have attended a retreat but have not attended at this location. NOTE: If you have attended a HBA 3-day nature retreat in the past and you have attended a retreat at this location, you are welcome to register and be placed on the waiting list. We almost always have cancellations.

This is a discreet, no-cost 3-day retreat in the Adirondacks for veterans who have experienced moments when life felt too heavy. Retreats are free once people arrive - however we are not in a position to pay for transportation to get to and from the retreat venue. However, once you arrive, housing, food, and essentials are taken care of for you. If you are a veteran coming to a retreat and are willing to provide transportation to any veteran in need of transportation that may be on your path to the retreat or within a certain number of miles from your path, please let us know. If you are a veteran in need of a ride and would like to find out if there may be someone coming by your way or could pick you up, please let us know.

You’ll be in the company of other veterans who understand—people who’ve been there. You’ll have time in nature, shared meals, and fireside connections all while maintaining your anonymity and dignity. Support is available but never forced. Whether you’re ready to talk or just need quiet, this retreat meets you where you are. 100% confidential and anonymous.

Our retreats are not exclusively for combat veterans. If you are a veteran experiencing PTSD, MST, TBI, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, or any other form of trauma or affliction, Homeward Bound Adirondacks is here to support you. We are committed to understanding your needs and helping you embark on a path towards a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Our retreats are made possible thanks to the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program and the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project. Let's connect our heroes with the tranquility they deserve.
Vets Helping Vets
Veterans build resilience and support networks through peer to peer discussions and activities. Retreats offer an opportunity to build comradery with other Vets while relaxing in a wilderness environment.
Policy
Our new screening process involves direct contact from a HBA Case Manager for all registered veterans to assess eligibility and prioritize attendance. We're focusing first on veterans enrolled in our Case Management and those who haven't yet experienced a retreat, particularly those facing service-related challenges. If a retreat reaches capacity under these criteria, we may need to schedule you for a later date. We understand this might be inconvenient and appreciate your understanding. Our goal is to support as many veterans as possible, prioritizing those dealing with service-related trauma or difficulties. A member of our HBA team will be in touch shortly for a pre-screening discussion about your specific situation.
Waiting List
If there are any cancellations, those first on the waiting list, will be offered these on first come basis. Feel free to contact Homeward Bound Adirondacks to get on the waiting list

Cancelations
If you need to cancel, please cancel with HBA as soon as possible. Please do not wait until the day before the retreat. An empty RSVP is one veteran who misses out.
