Join us on June 26 for a paddle and 2 night primitive camping adventure in the Round Lake Wilderness Area near Long Lake, NY.
Please Note:
This trip is being offered first to veterans who have not previously attended. If you have participated in this trip before, you are still welcome to register; however, priority will be given to first-time attendees. We encourage you to sign up regardless—if no new veterans register, you may still be selected. In the event of high demand, returning participants may be placed on a waitlist and notified if a spot becomes available.


Experience an unlimited and truly immersive outdoor adventure exploring the beautiful backcountry of the Adirondack Mountains. Discover the joy and satisfaction of exploring the great outdoors, whether you are a seasoned adventurer or a first-time explorer. Paddle into the remote backcountry to a primitive campsite and create lasting memories. You will have a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature, find peace, and discover the beauty of the great outdoors. In addition to paddling and camping, veterans will have the option to fish for Adirondack Brook Trout and Largemouth Bass. Don't miss out on this meaningful and unforgettable outdoor adventure and experience.

Must be physically capable of slow paddling for 3 to 4 hours with rest and bathroom breaks periodically.

All costs for the backcountry wilderness adventure are Free! Sorry, transportation to and from Long Lake, NY is not provided. Homeward Bound Adirondacks does NOT pay for transportation to and from retreats. However, once you arrive, gear, food, and essentials are taken care of for you. If you are a veteran coming to a retreat and are willing to provide transportation to any veteran in need of transportation that may be on your path to the retreat or within a certain number of miles from your path, please let us know. If you are a veteran in need of a ride and would like to find out if there may be someone coming by your way or could pick you up, please let us know.

Our retreats are made possible thanks to the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program,the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project, and many other grants and donations from various local organizations and businesses. Let's connect our heroes with the tranquility they deserve.

Shane Holmes
Retreat Coordinator & Outdoor Guide
Shane is a USMC and New York ARNG Combat Veteran and is the Retreat Coordinator for Homeward Bound Adirondacks, He is also a licensed NY Outdoor Guide, Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, and Master Naturalist.
Ken Bezio
LICENSED Mental Health Counselor
Ken is a NYS and Vermont licensed mental health counselor with over 10 years of experience in both clinical and outdoor-based settings. Born and raised in the North Country, he brings a deep understanding of rural life and serves a wide range of clients—including veterans, first responders, and healthcare professionals—as a welcoming and compassionate EMDR therapist.

We will take you on a journey into the wild and show you the beauty of the Adirondack backcountry. Along the way you will have an opportunity to build comradery, trust, and a support network through peer to peer discussions and activities.  

Our mission is to assist Veterans and their families reintegrate back into the community following military service. This is accomplished through wilderness retreats, crisis outreach, suicide prevention, case management, transportation to medical, mental health and substance use treatment appointments and a local drop-in center. All our services are free to the Veteran and family members.
