About Fractal Worlds
Embark upon a cinematic audio-visual journey where the sheer beauty of mathematics, nature and architecture coincide to inspire introspection and awe.

Through the creative digital expression of the endless iterations and multiple dimensions of fractals, Fractal Worlds explores fundamental mathematical patterns to stimulate existential self reflection and emphasize the pure wonderment of being.

Commissioned for ARTECHOUSE Houston and in collaboration with ARTECHOUSE Studio, this expanded version of Fractal Worlds marks Horsthuis’s first solo exhibition in the city. His previous works have been featured in the Academy Award-winning Manchester by the Sea (2016) and the VFX-heavy Koning van Katoren (2012), and he has collaborated with leading visual and musical artists including Android Jones, ODESZA, and Meshuggah.
About Julius Horsthuis:
Julius Horsthuis is a Dutch visual and fractal artist who combines his years of experience with visual effects and passion for computer graphics to create cinematic animations. With a background in film, his passion for fractal art and artificial intelligence allows Horsthuis to be the creator of his own world.
Horsthuis works with the software mandelbulb3d to uncover iterative complex formulas that are generated by the computer to produce the unmeasurable structures that are fractals.
Behind the Scenes with Julius Horsthuis
In 2021, ARTECHOUSE NYC commissioned Julius Horsthuis to develop Geometric Properties, an audio-visual installation that presents a new existence: an immersive, eternal reality removed from the complexities of the everyday. This video explains Horsthuis's process, taking visitors on an exploration through our recent past and Horsthuis's idea future - one that returns to the intersection of nature and math as our source of inspiration.
