COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Intro to the Supervisor's Role & Responsibilities
Newly minted supervisors must understand their critical role in complying with the law and holding employees accountable to company policies. To create this baseline understanding, the class first tackles common supervisor myths, like the freedom to fire “at-will” employees and introductory period protections. Next, the class introduces supervisors to their role (and liability) as company agents and then dives into the eight core responsibilities of effective, compliant supervisors, including spotting legal issues, avoiding bias, and taking defensible action. The class closes by discussing the traits that transform a good supervisor into a great leader.
Documentation for Supervisors
Documentation is critical for all organizations, but it’s often a struggle for supervisors to create and maintain appropriate records. In this training, we’ll dive into why documentation is so important, provide the essential tools for documenting well, and work through specific scenarios to practice these important skills. Supervisors will leave this class with a renewed focus on documentation, and the knowledge they need to accurately capture key interactions and events that occur in your organization.
Supervisor's Toolkit for Managing Mental Illness at Work
More than ever before, employees are experiencing mental health challenges that are impacting their ability to work. That’s why supervisors need to understand what mental illness means, how it shows up, and when it can be triggered or intensified by regional events, like floods, fires, and hurricanes. This class not only prepares supervisors to spot signs of mental illness, it also gives them the ability to recognize requests for help and respond in a way that’s both legal and empathetic.
Preventing Discrimination & Bias
Supervisors make numerous employee-related decisions every day, all of which can be affected by discrimination and bias. This class is designed to help supervisors make fair and legal decisions based on work history, skills, and performance. The class also introduces the brain science behind bias and gives common examples of conscious and unconscious bias at work. Class participants learn about affinity bias and consider how it affects interviews, hiring, and promotion decisions. Importantly, supervisors aren’t made wrong for being biased; instead, they are encouraged to slow down, be aware, and manage bias to give all applicants and employees an equal chance to succeed.
