2025 New Zealand Wind Energy Summit
Join us in Wellington 26-28 August

Tēnā koutou katoa,

As Aotearoa New Zealand advances toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future, wind power stands at the forefront of our energy transformation.

This year's summit theme, "Energy Security: The Power of Diversification," highlights the crucial contribution that wind energy plays towards our energy security needs.

As Aotearoa New Zealand accelerates its transition to a resilient, low-carbon future, this year’s Wind Energy Summit focuses on how geographically diverse wind resources enhance energy security.

As more wind farms are commissioned across the motu, wind turbines spin at different times depending on their location. When the wind doesn’t blow in some locations, it blows in others. This diversified profile ensures that wind energy plays its part to deliver reliable clean energy to the grid at all times.

In the second half of 2024, during constrained hydro inflows, wind energy generated 10% of the total energy delivered to the grid, providing much-needed energy when we needed it most. With an onshore wind project pipeline of 5.2 GW and a further 2GW - 3GW of offshore wind projects under investigation, wind energy built at scale with geographic diversity ensures we have sufficient energy to power our homes, businesses and industries.

To build more onshore wind farms and to develop our offshore wind market, critical shifts in policy, regulation, and market structures will need to progress at pace, which will further define the next phase of wind energy growth in Aotearoa New Zealand. With achievable renewable energy targets and evolving market dynamics, this year's summit brings together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators to explore how we can unlock the full potential of wind power.

From addressing barriers in transmission, ports and roads to discussing the role of wind in a 95% renewable electricity system, we will tackle the pressing challenges and opportunities ahead.

Over the summit, expect insightful keynotes, expert panel discussions, and networking opportunities that will shape the future of wind energy.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or new to the sector, this summit is your opportunity to actively contribute to our energy transition.

Let’s harness the power of wind and achieve a sustainable future—together!
